Leave Entitlement

Also known as: holiday entitlement, leave allowance

Leave entitlement is the total amount of leave an employee is allowed in a leave year, set by contract and statutory minimums.

Leave entitlement is the total quantity of leave — usually annual leave — an employee may take in a given leave year. It's determined by the employment contract, the employer's policy, and the statutory minimum guaranteed by law, whichever is greater.

Entitlement is the starting point of the leave balance: each approved absence is deducted from it. For part-time employees and mid-year joiners, the entitlement is typically pro-rated.

Formula

Pro-rated entitlement = full-time entitlement × (contracted hours ÷ full-time hours)
