Statutory Leave

Also known as: statutory holiday entitlement, legal minimum leave

Statutory leave is the minimum paid leave an employer must grant by law; contractual leave can exceed it but not fall below.

Statutory leave is the legally guaranteed minimum amount of paid leave an employee is entitled to. The exact figure depends on the country — for example, many EU countries mandate at least four weeks of paid annual leave — and an employer's policy must meet or exceed it.

Beyond annual leave, 'statutory' also describes legally required entitlements for sick pay, maternity, paternity, and other family leave. Employers frequently offer enhanced, contractual amounts above these minimums.
