Notice Period

Also known as: leave notice, request notice period

A notice period is the advance warning required either to end employment or, in leave terms, to request time off so managers can plan cover.

In leave management, a notice period is the minimum advance notice an employee must give when requesting time off — for example, requesting a week's holiday at least two weeks ahead. It gives managers time to arrange coverage and avoid clashes.

The term also refers to the contractual notice required to resign or be dismissed. Both senses are about giving the other party enough warning to plan; leave policies often encode a request-notice rule that scales with the length of leave.
