How working days are counted
The calculator walks every date from the start to the end (inclusive), skips any day of the week you marked as non-working, and skips any date in your holidays list that falls on a working day. What's left is your working-day count.
This is exactly how a leave tracker should deduct a booking — only working days come off the balance, so a week off over a public holiday costs four days, not five. Read more about the leave balance and half-day leave.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I count working days between two dates?
- Count every day in the range, then subtract weekends and any public holidays that fall on a weekday. This calculator does it automatically — tick the weekend days that are non-working and paste any holiday dates to exclude.
- Are the start and end dates included?
- Yes. The range is inclusive of both the start and end dates, which matches how leave is usually booked (the first and last day off both count).
- Does it handle public holidays?
- Yes — paste the holiday dates to exclude, one per line or comma-separated, in YYYY-MM-DD format. You can copy them from our public-holiday calendars for 190+ countries.
