Parental Leave
Also known as: family leave
Parental leave is time off for parents to care for a child, covering maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental arrangements.
Parental leave is an umbrella term for time off granted to employees to care for a child. It includes maternity leave, paternity leave, adoption leave, and (in some jurisdictions) shared parental leave that parents can split between them.
Entitlements, pay, and eligibility are heavily governed by local law and vary widely between countries. Employers often offer enhanced parental-leave packages above the statutory minimum as a benefit.
